In a movie about King George VI, who had a speech impediment, viewers graphically see the embarrassment and humiliation associated with not being able to speak a well-formed sentence. As a royal he suffered under expectations imposed upon him. Take a moment to consider a time when you faced embarrassment and humiliation. You most certainly didn’t want an audience. When Jesus took the man with the speech impediment off by himself in the Gospel, he was withdrawing from curious onlookers. How great is the compassion of Jesus! Allow Jesus to heal your feelings around embarrassment and humiliation. Pray for the grace to be able to welcome ridicule, with Jesus, who suffered humiliation himself.
